How to make a receipt

I tested this receipt maker with a three-item coffee shop order on the In-Store POS template. I set the paper to 80 mm, downloaded the PDF, and checked the file. The page came out exactly 80 mm wide, the length followed the number of items, and the barcode at the bottom decoded to the order number, #1001.

1. Pick a template, a font, and a paper width. There are four templates: Online Order, In-Store POS, Classic Sales, and Branded Logo. In-Store POS, Classic Sales, and Branded Logo start on 80 mm thermal paper, and Online Order starts on an A4 page. On the three thermal templates, the paper width setting changes it to 58 mm, 80 mm, or A4. Online Order always stays on A4. The switches turn the barcode, a signature line, and the transaction codes on or off.

2. Add your store details. Type the store name, address, phone, and website, and upload a logo if you have one. The maker saves these in your browser, so they are filled in the next time you open it.

3. Fill in the receipt details. On the Details tab, set the receipt number, date, and time, an optional customer, the currency and tax, shipping and a tip, the payment method, and a footer message such as your return policy.

4. Add the items. On the Items tab, type each product with a quantity and a unit price. Add a discount if you give one, and the subtotal, tax, and total add up as you type.

5. Download the receipt. Choose PDF or PNG and click Download. You can also print it straight from the browser.

POS and thermal receipts (58 mm and 80 mm)

Till printers use rolls of thermal paper, and the two common widths are 58 mm (about 2.3 inches) and 80 mm (about 3.1 inches). The In-Store POS, Classic Sales, and Branded Logo templates match that look: a narrow column, a till-style font, and a barcode of the order number at the bottom. Classic Sales prints in all capitals like an old dot-matrix till.

The PDF is cut to the real paper width, so an 80 mm receipt is an 80 mm wide page. The length depends on how many items you add, the same way a printed till roll gets longer with a bigger order. To print it on a thermal printer, open the PDF and print at 100% scale so the width stays at 58 or 80 mm.

Online order receipts on A4

The Online Order template is A4 wide (210 mm) and as long as the order needs, with a logo header and a product table. This layout suits a receipt you email to a customer or attach to an order, where a narrow till roll would look out of place.

You can switch templates at any time. The details you typed stay in place, and the preview redraws in the new style.

Add your logo

Upload a PNG, JPG, SVG, or WebP file up to 2 MB, or paste a link to an image. The logo appears at the top of the receipt in the preview and in the downloaded PDF or PNG. The Branded Logo template puts the logo first and adds an accent color to match your brand.

Download a PDF with no watermark

Every download is free and has no watermark, logo stamp, or page limit. You do not need an account. The receipt is built in your browser, so the details you type are not sent to a server. Your store profile is saved in your own browser only.

What goes on a receipt

A receipt is proof that a customer paid. It needs these parts:

• Your business name and contact details, so the customer knows who to ask about the sale.
• The receipt number, date, and time, so you can find the sale in your records.
• Each item with a quantity and price, then the subtotal.
• Discounts, tax, shipping, and tips, each on its own line.
• The total paid and the payment method, such as card, cash, or Shopify Payments.
• A footer message, which is a good place for your return policy.

37 currencies, including USD, EUR, GBP, INR, CAD, AUD, and JPY. Amounts are formatted for each currency, with no decimals for currencies such as JPY.

Is my receipt data stored on a server?

No. The receipt is built in your browser and is not sent to a server. Your store profile is saved only in your own browser.
