Free Etsy Fee Calculator
See every Etsy fee and your exact net payout in one click, then switch to Stripe, Shopify, Square, Depop, Mercari, Poshmark, Reverb, or PayPal. Get a line-by-line breakdown, add your item cost for profit and margin, or reverse-solve the price to hit a target payout. No signup is required.
How to Use the Etsy Fee Calculator
The tool has two modes. Pick the one that matches what you already know:
- Price to payout: Enter your item sale price and, if you charge it, your shipping. The calculator lists each fee, totals them, and shows your net payout. Add your item cost to see profit and profit margin too.
- Net to list price: Enter the payout you want to keep. The calculator solves for the list price that leaves you exactly that much after fees, then shows the breakdown so you can confirm it reconciles.
Use the platform dropdown to switch from Etsy to another marketplace or payment provider. The fee lines re-label and re-compute for that platform's real US fee schedule, so nothing from the previous platform leaks through. Where fees depend on context, a small sub-selector appears: your Shopify plan, whether Square is taking the card in person or online, or whether Stripe is online or in-person.
Every platform links to its official fee page with the date we checked it. Rates change often and vary by country and plan, so treat the numbers as a fast, accurate starting point and confirm anything critical against the source.
How Etsy Fees Work in the US
Etsy charges US sellers three fees on a normal sale, plus optional ad fees:
- Listing fee: A flat $0.20 to publish or renew a listing. It applies per listing, and a listing lasts four months or until the item sells.
- Transaction fee: 6.5% of the item price plus the shipping and gift wrap you charge. This is Etsy's marketplace cut.
- Payment processing fee: 3% plus $0.25 per order for US sellers using Etsy Payments. This covers the card processing.
- Regulatory operating fee: A small percentage in some countries, such as the UK and parts of the EU. It is 0% for US sellers. The tool includes an editable field so sellers outside the US can enter their rate.
Take an item at $30 with $5 shipping. The listing fee is $0.20. The transaction fee is 6.5% of $35, which is $2.28. Payment processing is 3% of $35 plus $0.25, which is $1.30. The regulatory fee is $0.00 in the US. Total fees are $3.78, so your net payout is $31.22. Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads are separate and are not included by default.
How the Other Platforms Charge
The calculator models each platform's real structure, not a single blended rate.
- Stripe: A pure payment processor. Online card charges are 2.9% plus $0.30 with no marketplace fee. In-person Terminal payments are 2.7% plus $0.05. A $100 online charge costs $3.20, leaving $96.80.
- Shopify: Shopify Payments charges a card rate that depends on your plan (2.9% plus $0.30 on Basic, 2.7% plus $0.30 on Grow, 2.5% plus $0.30 on Advanced online) and there is a 0% transaction fee. If you use a third-party gateway instead, Shopify adds a plan-based transaction fee (2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced) and your outside processor charges its own card fees on top.
- Square: The rate depends on how the card is taken. In-person tap, dip, or swipe is 2.6% plus $0.15. Online or API is 2.9% plus $0.30. Square Invoices are 3.3% plus $0.30. Manually keyed or card-on-file is 3.5% plus $0.15.
- Depop: In 2024 Depop removed the seller selling fee in the US. Sellers now pay only Depop Payments processing of 3.3% plus $0.45, and buyers pay a separate Buyer Protection fee that does not reduce your payout.
- Mercari: In January 2025 Mercari brought back a seller fee. US sellers now pay a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus shipping, and the separate seller payment-processing fee was removed. Buyers pay a separate 3.6% Buyer Protection fee at checkout that does not reduce your payout.
- Poshmark: A two-tier fee. A sale under $15 costs a flat $2.95. A sale of $15 or more costs 20% of the listing price. Buyers pay shipping separately, so it does not affect your payout.
- Reverb: A 5% selling fee on the item plus shipping, capped at $500, plus payment processing of 3.19% plus $0.49 (Preferred sellers pay 2.99% plus $0.49).
- PayPal: Online checkout is 3.49% plus $0.49. Standard commercial and invoicing transactions are 2.99% plus $0.49. PayPal is offered as an in-page option because many sellers accept it alongside a marketplace.
Reading the Fee Breakdown
The results panel shows the money the buyer pays that you collect at the top, then each fee as a negative line, then total fees and net payout. Because we round every line to whole cents and derive the total and net from those rounded lines, the breakdown always reconciles: the item and shipping minus the total fees equals the net payout to the cent. A small badge shows fees as a share of what you collect, which is the number to watch when comparing platforms.
Working Out Profit and Margin
Fees tell you what you keep, not what you earn. Enter your item cost and the tool subtracts it from your net payout to show profit, then divides that profit by your revenue to show profit margin. Leave item cost blank and those two figures stay hidden rather than showing a misleading zero. If your margin looks thin after fees, that is the signal to raise your price, cut your cost, or move a product to a lower-fee channel.
Reverse Mode: Price for a Target Payout
Sometimes you know the number you need to walk away with. Switch to the net-to-price tab, type your target payout, and the calculator solves for the list price that nets exactly that after fees. It handles Poshmark's jump from a flat $2.95 to 20% at the $15 threshold, and the breakdown below confirms the solved price really does hit your target. This is the fastest way to set a price that covers your costs and the platform's cut in one step.
Tips for Lowering Your Fees
- Compare the effective fee rate, not the headline percentage. A fixed $0.25 or $0.30 fee hurts small orders far more than large ones.
- On Shopify, using Shopify Payments avoids the extra transaction fee that a third-party gateway adds.
- On Square, taking the card in person is cheaper than keying it in by hand.
- Bundle small items so a single fixed processing fee is spread across a larger order.
- Build the platform's cut into your price from the start using the reverse mode, rather than discovering it after the sale.
Frequently asked questions
How does the Etsy fee calculator work?
Enter your item sale price and, if you charge it, your shipping. The calculator adds Etsy's US fees line by line: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item plus shipping, and payment processing of 3% plus $0.25. It sums those into total fees and subtracts them from what the buyer pays to show your exact net payout. Add your item cost to also see profit and profit margin.
What are Etsy's seller fees in the US?
For US sellers Etsy charges a $0.20 listing fee per listing, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item price plus the shipping you charge, and payment processing of 3% plus $0.25 per order. A regulatory operating fee applies in some countries (for example the UK and parts of the EU) but is 0% for US sellers. Optional Etsy Ads and Offsite Ads are extra and are not included by default.
Are these fee rates current and are they US rates?
Yes. Every rate is US and USD by default, and each platform in the calculator links to its official fee page with the date we last checked it. Fees change often and vary by country and plan, so we expose sub-selectors for things like your Shopify plan, Square card-present versus online, and Stripe online versus in-person. Always confirm against the linked source before you rely on a number.
How do the other platforms' fees differ from Etsy?
Stripe and PayPal are pure payment processors, so they charge one percentage plus a fixed fee with no marketplace cut. Square changes its rate by how the card is taken. Shopify charges 0% transaction fee on Shopify Payments but a plan-based fee on third-party gateways. Poshmark charges a flat $2.95 under $15 or 20% above it. Reverb charges a 5% selling fee plus processing. Depop dropped its US seller selling fee in 2024, and Mercari now charges US sellers a flat 10% selling fee (after briefly going buyer-paid in 2024).
How is Poshmark's fee calculated?
Poshmark uses a two-tier fee in the US. On a sale under $15 you pay a flat $2.95. On a sale of $15 or more you pay 20% of the listing price. So a $14.99 sale costs $2.95 and a $15.00 sale costs $3.00. Buyers pay shipping separately, so it does not reduce your payout.
What is the reverse net-to-price mode?
Switch to the reverse tab, type the payout you want to keep, and the calculator solves for the list price that leaves you exactly that much after fees. It works on every platform, including Poshmark's flat-to-percentage threshold, and the breakdown below shows that the solved price really does net your target.
Does the calculator show profit and margin?
Add your item cost and the results panel shows your profit (net payout minus cost) and your profit margin as a percentage of revenue. Leave item cost blank and those two figures stay hidden rather than showing a misleading zero.
Is this fee calculator free?
Yes. It is 100% free, runs entirely in your browser, needs no signup, and supports unlimited calculations across Etsy and eight other platforms.
