How to Use the Reverb Fee Calculator

This quick walkthrough shows the calculator in action. For Reverb, it applies the 5% selling fee plus payment processing and shows your net payout, or reverse-solves the price to hit a target take-home.

The tool has two modes:

1. Price to payout: Enter your item price and, if you charge it, shipping. The calculator lists the selling fee, processing, and your net payout. Add your item cost to see profit and margin too.
2. Net to price: Enter the payout you want to keep, and the calculator solves for the listing price that leaves you exactly that after fees.

A seller tier selector switches between the standard and Preferred processing rates. The tool opens on Reverb, and the platform dropdown lets you compare against Etsy or another marketplace. Reverb's selling-fees page is linked with the date we checked it.

How Reverb Fees Work in the US

Reverb charges sellers two things on a sale:

• A 5% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping you charge, capped at $500.
• Payment processing of 3.19% + $0.49 for standard sellers, or 2.99% + $0.49 for Preferred sellers.

Both come out of the sale. The selling fee is the marketplace's cut for connecting you to buyers; the processing fee is the cost of running the card. The calculator shows each as its own line so you can see where the money goes.

The $500 Selling-Fee Cap

The 5% selling fee stops growing once it reaches $500. That happens at a $10,000 sale (item plus shipping). Above that, the selling fee stays $500 no matter how expensive the instrument, so a $20,000 vintage guitar still pays only the $500 cap in selling fee, plus processing. The cap protects high-value gear from an unlimited percentage, and the calculator applies it automatically so your fee never overstates.

A Worked Example

Sell a $200 item with $15 shipping:

• Selling fee: 5% of $215 = $10.75
• Processing (standard): 3.19% of $215 + $0.49 = about $7.35
• Total fees: about $18.10
• Net payout: about $196.90 before your own item cost

Switch the tier to Preferred and processing drops to 2.99% + $0.49, trimming the fee slightly. The calculator prints the exact figures so you never estimate by hand.

The Preferred-Seller Rate

Reverb offers established, high-volume sellers a Preferred-seller processing rate of 2.99% + $0.49 instead of the standard 3.19% + $0.49. The 5% selling fee is unchanged. If you qualify, switch the tier selector to Preferred to see your lower net cost. If you are not sure whether you qualify, use the standard rate for a conservative estimate that will not understate your fees.

Fees the Calculator Does Not Include

The tool models Reverb's selling fee and payment processing, which are the core per-sale costs. It does not add optional promoted-listing spend (Reverb Bump), shipping-label purchases you absorb, or tax handling, since those depend on choices you make per sale. Add any promotion cost separately when you budget.

Using the Reverse Mode

Switch to the Net to price tab, type the payout you want to keep, and the calculator solves for the listing price that leaves you exactly that after Reverb's selling fee and processing. Because there is both a percentage and a fixed processing fee, you cannot simply add 5% back on; the tool handles the exact reconciliation and shows the breakdown so you can confirm it.
