How Mercari Fees Work in the US

Under Mercari's 2025 US structure, the seller cost is simple: a flat 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping you charge. The separate seller payment-processing fee was eliminated, so 10% is the whole seller cost. That makes Mercari's math easy to reason about compared with marketplaces that stack a percentage and a fixed fee.

Buyers pay a separate Buyer Protection fee of about 3.6% at checkout. That is charged to the buyer, not to you, so it does not reduce your payout. This calculator models the seller's 10% fee.

A Worked Example

Sell a $20 item:

• Selling fee: 10% of $20 = $2.00
• Net payout: $18.00 (before your own item cost)

If you charge shipping, the 10% applies to the item plus shipping total, because the fee is calculated on everything the buyer pays you for the sale. Add your item cost in the tool and it also shows profit and margin.

What Changed and Why It Matters

Mercari's US seller fees have moved around. For years sellers paid a 10% selling fee plus a processing fee. In 2024 Mercari briefly shifted costs to a buyer-paid model, then moved to the current flat 10% seller fee with no separate seller processing charge. Because the structure has changed more than once, it is worth confirming the live rate on Mercari's help center. This calculator uses the current flat 10% seller structure.

Fees the Calculator Does Not Include

The tool models the seller's 10% selling fee, which is the core seller cost. It does not add optional promotions or shipping-label costs you choose to absorb, and it does not subtract the buyer-paid Buyer Protection fee, since that does not come out of your payout. Add any promotion cost separately when you budget.

Using the Reverse Mode

Switch to the Net to price tab, type the payout you want to keep, and the calculator solves for the listing price that leaves you exactly that after Mercari's 10% fee. With a flat percentage the math is clean, and the tool shows the breakdown so you can confirm the solved price nets your target.

Mercari vs Poshmark vs Depop

The resale apps price sellers very differently. Mercari is a flat 10%. Poshmark takes a flat $2.95 under $15 or 20% above it. Depop now charges only processing of 3.3% + $0.45. Switch the platform dropdown to run the same item through each. For a $20 item, Mercari's $2.00 fee undercuts Poshmark's $4.00 (20%), while Depop's processing-only fee is lower still.
